In order to build foundational skills in painting techniques, the students begin the semester in "painting school." Yes, it is a school within the school. As with any discipline, students grow and advance when taught the necessary skills in which they can practice "good" painting. Foundational painting involves the practice of learning how to properly mix colors, painting a crisp edge, and blending values; after that, painting abstractly and splatter-painting the Jackson Pollock way comes easy! The students may also engage in projects that involve Surrealism, Impressionism, Vanitas Still Life, and landscapes ala Bob Ross.
